Description

Painter 2015, Wacom Intous 5, about 20 hours.

I drew this picture for KingdomOfSwedens contest: mythology
It is an attempt of a representation of Niflheim from Norse mythology. At first I wanted the girl pictured to be a personification of Niflheim, but now i'm not so sure.

My dear friend Merveilleuse-minuit  from tumblr helped me to not stray too far from my original idea, thanks hun.

Closeup of the face can be found here (literary all of her details disappeared when i had to re-size this massive painting)

Congratulation to your place in the contest
I’m here to give feedback as part of you price.
I like it, especially like that the piece it’s dark and mysterious like Nifelheim.
The character in the picture I saw as Hel the guardian and queen of Niflheim with her crown and elegant cape.
If you wanted it to be a spirit or a human embodiment of Nifelheim, I would have worked away from the “royal” traits that you used.
I would have liked more off the winter in Nifelheim in this picture maybe some snow or mist to give the character and the background more connecting points. You have really great colors it feels like a cold, unforgiving, place where you spend your last days.
The character have more lilac shades and the background have more turquoise it disconnects them a bit. Try blending the colors more, I like the differencing but it’s a bit too much.
The character seems to be one with the ground whit is a nice connection and it goes from high detail to low and matching the background.
Too give the picture better balance I would try to create more space in the bottom, now it seems like it’s been chopped of a little too close to the dress, it needs space to breath.
Hope this gave you some thoughts.
Thanks for this wonderful piece and good luck in the future!
Love Jenny
